Well, I bought a '66 AM radio for my Mustang that ended up not working when I got it. It was beautifully rechromed and everything though!
So, I finally got around to getting it fixed. I wanted a local shop in Atlanta if possible and I did find a good one:
Auto Audio Service & Restoration Company 1200 CENTRAL AV EAST POINT, GA 30344 (404) 762-5350
The shop is owned by a guy named Hans (he told me a story about fixing these radios way back when they were brand new...he's got a lot of experience) who does the mechanical type restoration work and the rest of the business seems to pretty much be run by David who does the electricals.
I shipped them the radio since I didn't have time to drive down there during the week and they had it fixed in about 4 days. Hans took the time to get the push buttons working perfectly and David found/fixed an internal short and dialed in the tuning. They also cleaned everything inside and out.
Hans also recommended an original style speaker that he had...I needed one so I got it.
For everything the price was $103.00 which is very reasonable considering the speaker, parts, and labor to get it working.
I bought a '69 AM radio from Terry so that I could have the digital AM/FM Stereo conversion done to it. After searching for a long time and calling tons of people I decided to have the work done by Gary Tayman of Tayman Electrical ( http://www.taymanelectrical.com ) and I was very happy with the quality of the work.
He did the conversion and cleaned up the rest of the radio and I got back a great looking and sounding radio.
This was posted on the mailing list, so I figured I'd document it here...

Excellent work for a great price! My speaker basically disintegrated when I touched it (the cone), and there was a bit of rust on the connections to the cone. For $41.95 got a speaker shipped, re-coned, new coil, and new screen mesh. It sounds and looks great!

Just thought I'd pass along a good quality repair shop...

I have used Gary for 2 of my radios. My cars paperwork both show AM radios, but what a pain.
Had Gary T. convert them to AM/FM. Very happy with the work,
I just recieved my '67 AM/FM radio back from being cleaned and restored. These guys did a wonderful job! I also purchased a new replacement dash speaker from them as well. Their replacement speaker frames are stamped exactly like stock so they clip right in with the stock brackets.

The reproduction speaker was $40, and the radio restore was $150.
They blasted and re-painted the exterior box, cleaned and lubed all moving parts, cleaned and polished the lens and chrome parts, and replaced an internal bulb.
The radio worked before sending it in, just not very well. They can repair non-working radios as well.
Their initial (non-show car quality) estimate was $130 to $200. So they fell well within that range. Show quality is more, but I didn't ask more about that.
I had checked three other repair / restoration shops before hand and was quoted $200 to $500 for similar restoration.
