I am running Accel Hi-Temp Super Stock copper core 7mm wires and I tested them out and I am getting no ohms, I'm getting a dead short from end to end measurement. Is this normal? Has anyone ever tried these wires?
That sounds like a solid core wire to me. They will work with points but nobody uses them on a street car because they create so much rf noise no electronics can work on the car.
Yes I realize that now, they were good when I had points in her, but with the Pertronix Points eliminator kit, it's not nessary to have solid core wires, very little resistance. Thanks crazecars, now I see why I have a miss at idle. and it runs crappy. Dr. nice bird she does look beauitful and I like the rims on the bird you hav Quick it makes the car come together.
dam real sweet ride you have there, I also am red on red, but I have a 326 not a 400, but I love yours too. I'm running a accel super stock coil and 7mm wires , but they are solid core. I used to run 8mm wires all the time, not 7mm, I also found last night that the reason why I am getting weird readings, #1 the person controlling the tester and the 2nd was the wires weren't assembled correctly, the wire wasn't all the way up to the tongue. Anyway gonna try a new set and if the vacuum doesn't come up to 17"hg then it's time to do a compression test. The one that will tell me what's going on.
I feel stupid I had that number in my book, Thank you for the info bro. I actualy put a set of Accel universal wires 8mm, radio supression core and it ran real sweet, I just am looking into why my vacuum is at 12"hg at idle and when I accelerate it drops to 2 then shoots upto 18. I also disconnected the advance, trans modulator, and power booster and my vacuum went up to 13" steady. I am wondering what is going on with this engine?
plmcrzy, thanks I'm trying to solve her issues before I go back to work, It's any day now, then I won't have anytime to fix any issues til the next break comes. Retirement is coming soon.
I hear you! Ive been busting my but for years, Im looking for the day when I retire, then I will resume my passion. My situation seems to be the same! Good luck.........Mark
I actually got my pink slip in April and benn busting my butt trying to get her running again, It's been a long time since I had the summer off, It was nice for a change. Thanks, Hopefully I solve it. It's stumping me Mark. It's like I have a vacuum leak or my valve timing is off?
Ragu, can you tell me what all you have done to the car since your vacuum readings changed? Carb adjustment, timing, engine temp, idle speed, and obviously a vacuum leak can all affect a vacuum reading. Also, when you open the throttle you will lose vacuum, how much and how long will be related to the throttle opening, so that part of what you described sounds normal.
Quick I have just changed the plug wires, I put on 8mm radio supression, I had copper core on there. I ran her and the idle is much improved it still has a miss, but nothing like it was. Vacuum gauge still reads 12" steady, when I removed the booster, vac advance and trans mod. it went to 13". I put them all back on and started to open up the throttle and watch the gauge, as I rev'd it up and down, it would go down to around 2" then up to 18" and back to 12", I did this a few times. No carb adjustment, but it was recommended I set the mixture screws as they are set to one and a half turns out. I also changed the plugs too. (R45S gapped to .035) I set the timing to 10deg.BTDC, that's about it. Today was a little too hot to be under the hood in my garage, so I didn't get anything done. Since I had the summer off I have accomplished a lot with her, and I have a Thank a lot pf people for there help, I wouldn't have done on my own. What I am looking into is maybe a vacuum leak at the booster if ok I'll get into the vac advance then check the modulator. Then I'll check the manifold and carb base with carb cleaner again. Are you thinking it's a Vac leak?
