After searching for a nice one to no avail. I am planning on trying my hand at restoring a steering wheel for the bird this winter so I thought I should start looking now. Anyone have one by chance?
So, you are looking for one that is cracked? I don't have a center cap for it...
I should qualify my statements. I should have an extra one lying around here somewhere, but it will be missing the center cap. I only have one of those and I will use it for my convertible project.

I'll post a pic in the next day or so, sorting through all the parts in the basement and getting ready to relocate them to a storage unit.

I have two black 68 delux wheels. both need restoration.
I have two 68 Firebirds: 68 convertible ls2, auto 4L60E, red interior, white/black power top. I have owned since 1971. 2) 68 coupe, aqua/white tope. aqua interior, 350 4 speed. I am restoring this car and it will be for sale. Before paint or after.
Sorry for the long delay, I've been moving. I looked at the two I had and consulted with some who have redone deluxe wheels. The consensus is one is beyond repair in their opinion, so that leaves me with only one viable candidate for rebuilding.

Looking for a 1968 deluxe wheel myself, have a extra center cap, can anyone help? mine has sever cracking around the lower collar. Sorry I know this is an old post.
Like the yeti and the Loch Ness monster, the deluxe steering wheel is a myth. At least one in restorable condition. I've got a couple, but have been told they are beyond repair. There is a guy in Smoke Signals who says he recasts them. I haven't tried him yet.

I talked to a guy who will recast the plastic but he wanted over a grand, can't remember his name.. I'll keep looking for quit a while before dumping that kind of money on a wheel. Thanks for the comeback.

Thanks for the info, a grand is a lot of money for a steering wheel. Ouch. Sorry if my response was a little snarky, if you find one in decent shape let us know. It will bring hope to the many!

If you are careful and take your time you can repair/restore some pretty big cracks and even out of round wheels. the plastic of the 60's just does not age well and finding one for sale without big ol cracks is pretty rare. I had one of the wood custom wheels and thought I liked it until I got the restored 68 Deluxe wheels in there. http://www3.telus.net/68bird/steering_wheel.htm I have seen the sites of people that make the recast replacements. they are awesome but REALLY expensive.
There is nothing else like the deluxe wheel for looks! Not sure if the bigger body cars have anything like it, but they(owners) all tell me to just get a repop wood one. When I see cars for sale with a deluxe wheel that appears to be in good shape, I start to wonder if buying a car for its steering wheel makes sense. I bought a project to build around a set of heads.

I have done 3 of them now. The one on my 68 has small cracks around the wheel itself again after 2 years in the car. They are alot of putsy work but turn out nice. If anyone is interested in me doing a wheel for them let me know. 400.00 plus shipping both ways. They end up in sandable primer or I can paint them in your color for additional fee.
