Looking for opinions.... My 68 firebird was built with red body color, white vinyl top, and white interior. When I got it it had red body color, black vinyl top, and black interior. I want to add the Rally strips. Would the factory Rally Strips have been black with the black vinyl and white with the white vinyl?
Yes. usually the stripes matched the interior and-or top. I have seen black stripes on red cars, and they do not 'pop' like the white does.
You don't say if your interior is now white or black, but sounds like black?
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. My interior is deluxe black. I like the white strips better than the black but I don't want it to look wrong. I am still tempted to go with the white. If I could win the lottery I would have the interior and vinyl put back to the original white.
Throw a set of white wall tires on there to match! (just kidding)
The black stripes will look good, they just won't be as pronounced as the white.
I think the white stripes will look a little out of place not having anything to accent them.
Have you searched around for pictures with that color combo? Or maybe Harold can photoshop something for you if he takes time away from creating new T-shirts.

I agree with 68tpls400 - Since top and interior are black, the black stripe would be the best combo. It will actually look a lot better than you may think. I'm doing a restoration right now of a 68 convertible - Solar Red with white (ivory) top, white (Pearl) interior and I'm going to add a white Rally stripe (which it never had), again, playing off the top and interior. It always seemed to be missing something and I think the white stripe might be just the thing to pull it all together.
Good luck with it. You can always change the stripe after you win the lottery.
Come to think of it, if you do hit the lottery, consider painting the car white. IMO white with a black (or red) rally stripe combination looks great.
Has anyone put their stripes under a few layers of clear coat?

I read about the clear coat and the verdict was "don't do it". The stripes and the clear coat don't expand and contract at the same rate. It also would be a nightmare if you ever needed to repair, replace, or take it off.
Next week when I win the lottery I will be selling my car and look for a 68 FB 400 with automatic, totally restored convert with matching numbers, documentation, white interior, Blue exterior, Power top and power windows.
If anyone has this car I am willing to give them my car and my lottery tickets in trade. (no guarantee on the tickets).
BTW: I ordered the black stripes. I'll post pictures when it's done if I figure out how to post pictures.
