I need some help. My 69 firebird coupe. The rear axle rubber bumpers, or axle stops, or whatever they are called have the rubber dry rotted and need replacing. I order a new pair of rubber bumpers(Eckler's) only to find they don't bolt to my correct brackets, the replacements pull thru a slot in the brackets (a slot I don't have). Further investigation shows the 69 camaro brackets use a slot and pull thru rubber bumper, the firebirds rubber bolts on to a spotless bracket.
I can't find a firebird replacement. All the typical resellers show the camaro part for the firebird part. Does anyone have any idea where I can get the rear axle rubber bumpers for a firebird. I don't want to put camaro parts on my bird. Thanks!
I have not seen anyone that makes a correct rear axle wheelwell bumper. You can buy the bracket and bumper but like you said the rubber is pressed into the bracket. I purchased a set because my rubber was gone and really had no other choice. The brackets did not even align correctly.
Only thing I know is to find a good used set if you want them correct. Franks Pontiac shows a set that looks pretty good.
Yes, they pull thru into the brackets on the camaro. They mount directly above the axle outboard of the frame rail. The firebird brackets don't have a pull thru slot, they have a hole a bolt goes thru. I'm just bummed that these camaro parts are sold as firebird parts...then they, the parts sellers say "Are you sure this was an original part?"
I have seen some used ones, thank you for the suggestions. Mine are still there but 45 years old, so i was trying to replace all the rubber on the car.
Someone has to reproduce these. I may have to cut the tab off and glue them to my brackets......
If you want me to take measurements, maybe these will work in lieu of nothing...I believe I paid $20 for the pair. Be happy to measure the length width and height for you as well as the threaded part.

thank you for your offer. they are 3" long, 2" wide, and 2.25" tall. I think they are larger than control arm bumpers. I guess i could order some rubber and bandsaw cut them out, what a pain!

Hey thanks for that link. That looks different than the one I took off my 69? Maybe I didn't look close enough and mine could have been ripped off the pointed section? I am scratching my head. I recall a more rectangular shape and shorter than that one. Anyone know what I'm talking about or just imagining this?
The picture of the other axle snubber is somewhere, too big of a clusterfuck to sort through.
The last shot is interesting trivia: It’s the sound deadner in the right wheelhouse, and it relates to doing concourse restorations. When they gunned the sound deadner, the entire external edge is slop-drooping lamf. The correct way to intall this stuff is use your thumb and swipe away the lower glob while it was still green.
It has been my experience that all repop houses sell rubber components that don’t fit factory configurations. For instance, the door bumpers don’t fit factory door holes, but they fit aftermarket door holes; likewise, with rubber hood stoppers; they fit aftermarket bolt-posts but they don’t fit factory bolt-posts.
If Franks has a pair, you ought to by then and call it done. How the center one attaches, I don’t have a clue and I don’t feel like crawling under the car and looking. Sorry.
Thanks for the picture and Link for the axle pinion cushion. I didn't recognize the link picture from the side without any depth to the part. The photo above looks like my old one, and I'll order one. Thanks to both of you.
