All lights work, except my backup lights. Installed new backup sockets and 1156 bulbs, cleaned socket contacts to get good ground. Flasher works. Fuse is good. What could it be?
thank you!

Did you check switch at brake pedal? It controls the circuit. Do you use a Meter to check voltage going to lights?

All my cars have been standards. A 68 4 speed had the switch at the reverse linkage on the tranny. One of the members with an automatic will know for sure, but I'd start by checking the column for a reverse light switch. As I recall should be 2 green wires going to it.
Missing linkeage? for back up lights theres a linkeage that often is missing if people installed headers , (IIRC?) and all are really column shift ,...column shift is the same as console shift...just linked over from console to column......
I see the neutral safety & back up lamp switch at the bottom of the steering column, with the correct colored wires connected to it: pink and light green.
How can I check for voltage without putting the car on axle stands, engine running and gear shift in reverse position?
Should the reverse lamps light up with ignition in ON position, shift in reverse, but engine not running?

Yes. You should be able to light them with the key on and shifter in R. I know 69s had the switch at the base of the column but I thought 7 and 8 were different. If it's the same, there is a trigger that sticks out of the switch that fits in a slot that turns on the light when the collar rotates into the right position. Sometimes it gets out of adjustment. Sometimes the switch goes bad.
