A few of the front bolts joining the underside of the lower front valance panel on my 1969 need to be de-rusted or replaced. Just wondering though if anyone can confirm I have the correct hardware? If not, I'll throw them away and get the correct ones.
The ones I have are hex, with pointed tips, which fit a 13mm or 1/2 inch socket. There's enough rust on them that I can't tell if they started off black or silver, although the nut and washer are definitely silver.
I've put a few photos in, to make it clear what I'm talking about. What I want to know is what colour/finish were the originals and were they hex? Classic do sell new bolt hardware kits, but I don't know if they are strictly correct?
Thanks for that. I see that now and retainers in Classic's site. Is a "phosphate" coating the same thing as if I used a phosphate de-rusting agent?....which I think leaves metal looking phosphate black, or is it better just to replace the whole lot?
I'm not asking because I'm too stingy to spend a few extra $ on screws, more just because of curiosity.
You can buy a complete set for the valance at AMES for $20. https://secure.amesperf.com/qilan/Search_Web?order_number_e=NDQyNzA1NA%3D%3D%0D%0A&method_1=&method_2=&on=Y&search_method=3&cat_rowid=2&search_year=1969&cat_sec_rowid=21&cat_sec_sub_rowid=481
You can also buy retainer nuts from amk products. They ones you are looking for are B-10617. They sell kits and loose parts (min order is $30). Their site isn't easy to navigate, but the quality of the reproductions is pretty good.
