My next car within 4 years is hopefully going to be a electric car with self driving tech. look forward to just jumping in and tell car whee to go. It would be cool to install an electric motor in a bird as well. Pipe in the engine noise on pre recorded disk.

I hope that the Lord takes me before I am too old to drive. I couldn't wait until I turned 15 1/2 so that I could get my learner's permit. Since then, I look for every possible opportunity to drive. Commuting 100 miles RT in Chicago area traffic was often challenging but being behind the wheel with the radio playing tempered the pain. Running a country road, winding around a mountain, cuttin' cookies on snow, or running an Interstate is one of life's great pleasures.
I will NOT buy an electric car, unless I can still drive and none others available.... might be ok for errands around town....but I don't want a car that tells me which route I`m taking on a trip....(currently Tesla owners cannot go from Houston to LA on I 10...you got to go north to Dallas , then follow what Tesla tells you ,where "filling" stations are)...or one that adds two days to a trip from Huston to LA (for instance)...also, in areas where we often flood (Houston), you cannot take it out in "water"...with regular cars you can at least drive in afoot of water , which often is necessary here... on top of this...they are dangerous for pedestrians and bicyclists without the "vroom, vrooom" and the faster you go, the shorter distance you go (true for gasoline too,m but not as prevalent)
Im` a fossil, will still use "my" fuel///fossil fuels

Ya know, now that I have reached retirement (a phase of live I have spent a long time preparing for ), I have had a lot of time to think about the future. Your comment i exactly what I have decided. If I get to the point where they take my license away - just take me out.
And I drew my technology "line in the sand" with smartphones.

At current age,(Im now 74 and next time is in 2022) they wont renew license for longer than every 6 yrs...now, so...been thinking about it...IF I wont at some point get license renewed...may just move to Colombia (Not Panama as I earlier contemplated) as it very inexpensive and I can get a taxi anywhere...lol...
Well I just got home from visiting my son in SoCal. 7hr trip in the car. I figure if I could get in the car and get comfortable and read a book or snooze and wake up when I get home, that wouldn't be so bad. Be kind of like if the train went straight to your house only you can't really get up and walk around or go to the dining car. I wonder if you are going to be able to have a few cocktails on the way? I mean, I'm not driving right? Hmmm. Not sounding too bad anymore eh? I wonder how it figures out which gas station to stop at when you need to fill up or charge up or whatever? What happens when I gotta take a whiz is it just going to pull over or do I gotta carry a plastic bottle with me in the car? Lots of unanswered questions.

seems to take all the fun out of "driving"....convenient yes....but I don't have a classic car for convenience,,
exactly.....and would you need a drivers license??
How would you like to get the blue screen of death or a hacker's ransom popup at 75 MPH and have no steering wheel, no brakes, and no accelerator. So far, I've walked away from every one of my computers' crashes.
