I'm trying to figure out what exhaust manifold pre-heater shield to buy. I'm trying to get closer to factory appearance. That means I'm replacing the round chrome air cleaner with a correct factory unit and need to hook up the flexible pipe and pre-heater shroud. Ames has 4 different shields, other guys 2 or 3. The problem is no one at any of the places can tell me what the dimensions are and the spacing between mounting holes would be critical. So: what I have is an engine with C034481 YC on the front passenger side an unreadable code by the distributor ending on 02
cast marks on the cylinder heads 6X on the driver side middle port and G M 12 on the front port on the passenger side Exhaust manifolds are cast iron but I don't know how to tell if they came with the original 69 engine or with the engine that's now in it. I'm not real concerned about what the engine is. It runs really strong. What I need to try to figure out is do I buy the shield meant for 68-69 with standard engines or should I pick the one for 70-74 standard aPontiac V8's? Any thoughts or advice will be most appreciated. Doug
I'd say the best way would to match the heat shield to your air cleaner. All the heads bolt on basically the same. You might need some studded head bolts to fasten the shield on with.
