1969 firebird convertible. If I plug the tail light harness in the lights come on even when the key is out of the ignition and lights are off. When I turn the car on the running lights work and the turn signals work but there are no brake lights. Any suggestions??
Could it be the brake lights that are on not the tail lights? Sounds like the brake light switch is loose and not shutting off. Try tightening the switch under the brake pedal.
I see you're a new member, I've received a lot of good help on this site I'm sure someone will have an answer for almost any problems you encounter. Welcome and good luck with your Firebird.
Thank you! It absolutely was the brake light that was stuck on. The piece that acuatuates the brake light on and off was not seated in its position. This car was just givin to my wife and I and was her Dads growing up. It's a 2 owner car with 87k original miles. I'm doing my best to keep it in the fantastic condition it's in. Just gave it a full tune up and was sorting out the lights. Looking forward to putting a few miles on the car with the wife!
