Trying to determine where my car was originally bought, is it from the dealer it was charge to, or the dealer it was ship to on the billing history? my guess is ship to is from the plant then sold by the dealer it was charge to but i dont know
also from that invoice I see the invoice date but what is best way to determine its build date? I once knew but now forgot

Mine was similar. It was purchased by an Illinois Pontiac dealer but shipped directly to a dealer in Maine for final prep and delivery. It was a corporate lease for its first 15 months with the purchasing dealer retaining the title. I like to say that I am the first owner past the GM dealer.
I consider the build date as the factory invoice date which, for mine, was the Monday after the week it was moving through Lordstown. The job's not done until the paperwork is complete. Also, I consider the ordering and invoice-named dealer the original one.
Ok so my invoice says 1/18/1968 that would be its born on date?
also which is the dealer that sold it? the one that says "charge to" or the one that says "ship to"
The ship to in my case is Pontiac Motor Division, to me doesnt sound like a dealer but it is out of SCal which is where the car is from. The charge to is H&R Pontiac GMC which was in El Centro CA

Ok so body tag. That’s right that’s the code. Tell me again what part is the born on date
In regards to charge to and ship to I’m not reinventing the wheel. Those words are in the top left of every firebird owners invoice. Someone over the years must have figured out what they mean. I know Harold posts the exact dealer his came from. Does it coincide with one of those two codes. I know the original owner of my car she lives in San Diego which is right for either code. I could ask her but she is old and hard to understand. I doubt she will even remember

Mine has a Billing History invoice date of 1/29/68 and a body tag time code of 01D i.e. 4th week of January 1968. What I meant before is that I locked in on the 1/29 date (the Monday after the 4th week of the month) as the official "born" date because the invoice was the final step in the main manufacture work that occurred in the prior week.
Maybe this helps: Based on my Billing History dealer codes; the car was charged to Huber Pontiac, Springfield, Illinois (Zone 12 Dealer 332) and delivered to Couri Motor Co. Portland Maine (Zone 01 Dealer 196). For other personal and definitive paperwork history reasons I know positively that the original ordering dealer was Huber Pontiac even though the car has never been in Springfield, Illinois. I can only assume that Huber paid a final prep charge to Couri to assist them in delivering the car to the person who was an employee of the company of the corporate lease.
