Does anyone lease out their car for special events?
Received something through Haggerty about Driveshare:
"DriveShare™ is a car-sharing platform where listers can rent out their fun cars for all kinds of occasions: date nights, beach days, weddings and even film productions. Film studios are looking to rent special cars for their productions all the time — putting a little extra cash in your pocket for this car, another car or another another car."
Wondering if anyone here does that and your experience.
What would be the daily rate for FGF?
Looks like driveshare takes a 35% fee but covers insurance.
I couldnt imagine letting someone renting my car for the day. I've driven this thing for 40 years and I can barely control it. At the very least the clutch would be burned up in short order. I know people who have rented their cars out for movies, commercials, music videos, photo shoots but usually nobody else drives them. Give me the willies just thinking about it.
Hagerty has been advertising that for the last few years. But I'm not buying. Can't imagine what someone else could screw up.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. I'd imagine if a person had a decent size collection of classics that they weren't attached to sentimentally, it may be worth it for them to have the cars "exercised".
But for most of us with just one car with sentimental value involved, just not worth it in my opinion.
And like Bob said, what if they burn up the clutch? Hagerty gonna cover that repair?
"sentimentally" says Jeff. Yep! My '68 was my first car and been mine for over 50 years. I cringe as I watch a mechanic drive it into their repair bay let alone let it out of my sight for a stranger.
There is a guy I know here who is a coordinator for arranging classic cars for TV and movie filming in the Chicago area. I have seen friends' cars in some scenes that he has arranged. I might consider that if and only if I was the person driving it.
Could be as simple as somebody spilling a soda or a coffee on the carpet. Or sitting in the seat with something sharp in the back pocket. So many possibilities and all of them bad just for a few bucks. Who pays for the wear and tear on my tires, or other parts, from some jackass doing burn outs for his friends?
