I acquired a '69 Firebird with XB 149568 block, casting number is 9790079, partial VIN block# 29L105349, heads cast# 62 (K278). My dashboard and cowel VIN# are the same, but is 768 apart from the block. The speedometer is for 160mph and is a 3-speed automatic. Did factory High Output engines match body VIN? The intake is cast with "Edelbrock Pontiac", and the headers are Hooker.

Those 350 blocks were used in 68 through 69. I would see no reason the blocks wouldn't match as the block had nothing to do with the HO set up. Those heads are from a 400, probably a Grand Prix. They are not original to the engine as they were never used on a factory 350 or on Firebirds as far as I know.
There are lots of things I don't know... just ask my wife! I know they were used on lots of GPs and Catalinas. Either way NOT on a 350 from the factory, although many have been put on a 350 after.
Came on several 400 & 428 engines. Looks like the heads were used on the standard 350hp GTO engine, as well as the 330hp Firebird engines, and even some auto trans RA3 Bird engines.
My body plate shows "AEE" below the paint code "69 B" and the block casting number (behind #8 cyl.) does not match the stamped block number with XB (front top )....the entire engine has original paint. I wonder if a GTO (350 W/#62 heads) was put in. The car appears original.
