<Tighten each until they break, then back off half a turn.>
I’m so humbled by the exponential creativity, intellect, and humor you display. And if I had one-tenth of your brainpower, I would consider myself quite gifted. Actually, I’m jealous and don’t mind admitting that I can only wish to be on such a high intellectual platform.
Don’t worry: it’s a lot better than you being jealous of me--huh?
Dat’s wright! You bee smart enough to figure out such a simple kindergarten concept; again, please forgive me for not recognizing your superior intelligence because when one is mired in ignorance, it’s hard to have insight on activities other than breathing. After all, you cannot fix stupid: No one signs up for stupid; as a result, it’s neither your nor my fault that a huge intellectual wall separates us.
To the other most respected board members, thank you for taking the time to help me out in my time of need.
Wow, Maybe his ill timed humor was uncalled for. I did find it funny. There are some very helpful people on here and glad that I may get to know some. If it would have been my posting this question I'd came back with already tryed that with less than successful results. I am in the process of rebuildinga motor that was supposed to be a great runner. But sadly I was decieved by a less than honest man and only humor keeps it from being a bad experience. You always get the answer you want here by the looks of the people here. Willing to help when they could just not care. IN a world full of noncaring people consider ourselves lucky....

sometimes its hard to see a joke...even though most would figure this one out.
The "crank it until it snaps off then back a quarter turn" is very old (and still good) humor, pretty sure I heard it first before these cars left the factory. The torque specs page from the library noted above is great, but does not contain the spec for the U bolts connecting the axle to the shock plate (leaf spring clamp). I have been Googling for a couple of hours now without success. If anyone knows what this should be it would be greatly appreciated.

Isn't that the "Nut, Lower shock mount to axle (Firebird)...... 60" in that '68 Pontiac Service Manual section that is referenced?
