Does anyone have a good picture of what the 1969 reverse light switch and set up looks like on a 4 speed transmission? From what I can tell it seems to be on the steering column? Totally different than 68 if that is correct?
Also interested in the neutral safety switch photo, but I think they have a switch that is mounted to the clutch pedal, so it seems more clear to me
Lastly, is the harness for either of these two items a separate pigtail, or part of the engine or dash harness? Thanks.
Yes you are correct, the 69 set up is completely different. The 68 has the switch on a bracket that mounts to the trans. The 69 is on the column and activated by a linkage from the shifter to the column. Do you still have the linkage on your 69? And yes the safety switch is activated by the clutch peddle under the dash too. Should be purple wire and neutral switch if I recall correctly is green and close to inside of firewall.
The back up lights and the key lock is all actuated by the back drive rod from the shifter. If you are doing a conversion from auto the neutral safety switch is not the same. In a stick car the putting the car in reverse is the only way of removing the key with the back drive intact. I have done three conversions over the last few years. Also keep in mind that it is correct that when you start a stick car the reverse lights are usually on till taken out of reverse. If you have used a chevy peddle set up with the clip the clutch gear safety switch is different. One of the pigtails is double purple. I jumpered that together on a car. PM me if you want to talk mer about it Ron

Thank you both. Ok, no I don't have the rods and my my car was an automatic long ago, but someone had converted it at some point. I have an M22 trans and will change the shifter rods as they are different on the trans than what is supposed to be there for the 69 Firebird. I didn't have any clutch lock out switch so If I chose to start the car in gear it would lurch forward.
I found the schematics from the 69 assembly manual so that will be helpfut to get it together.
I think they sell the reverse shifter rod set up that mounts to the frame. And I've seen the clutch pedal switch also online new repro. I'll need both and the different column switch.
I appreciate it. More questions to follow at some point when I start this process. Still on the rotisserie at the moment, but once painted on the bottom, I'll begin to put it back together with all the new acquisition parts I am accumulating.
The clutch safety switch isn't all that important and you can prob skip it. As long as you can rig up the backing lights you should be ok. I have to deal with the 4 sp linkage on my 69 goat. What a PIA. If you can get away without it and you're not an originality fanatic it's the way to go.
Thanks by the way to all who chimed it. It'll be a while before I can get to this point. I am still debating bottom color of the car.....black or body color, can't seem to make up my mind...
