Oil Pressure is Low
Short answer: First rule out the gauge — air in a new mechanical gauge’s line can make it read low until the air compresses, so bleed the line. Once you’ve confirmed real pressure at idle, if lifters aren’t pumping, pre-oil them (loosen the rocker, fill the pushrod with a pump oil can, reassemble and adjust without torquing, start it, tighten 1/4 turn at a time until the clatter stops, then torque).
