Engine Application – All Series

THESE ENGINE FEATURES HAVE BEEN RETAINED FOR 1968:

Lightweight Timing Belt Covers – All OHC 6 Engines. This cover, constructed of durable, lightweight plastic, is a contributing factor in reducing engine weight.

Wide Accessory Belt Grooves in Harmonic Balancer – All OHC 6 Engines. These wider grooves improve belt retention and prolong belt live.

Specific Camshaft – All 2-BBL V-8 Engines. Designed to provide more low-speed torque with improved idle qualities. Excellent low-speed performance with no sacrifice in fuel economy results when his camshaft is combined with the 400-cubic-inch engines.

Threaded Rocker Arm Studs – Firebird, GTO, Grand Prix and 428-Cu.-In. Engines. To assure proper stud retention in these high-performance engines, studs are threaded into the cylinder head rather than pressed.

Special Intake Manifold – 4-BBL Quadra-jet Carburetor. This manifold features an efficient streamlined “runner” design for improved engine breathing and added performance.

2.29:1 Axle Ratio – Catalina 2- and 4-Door Sedans with Turbo Hydra-Matic. When combined with premium-fuel engines, this special axle ratio assures owners the ultimate in smooth performance and economical operations.

Lightweight, All-aluminum Pistons – All 1968 Engines. By reducing inertia forces, these lightweight pistons contribute to the engine’s smooth performance under all driving conditions.

Aluminized Water Pump Internal Housing – All 1968 Engines. Constructed of aluminized stamped steel for greater durability, the housing features a ceramic seal seat to improve sealing and mating of parts.

“Reverse Twist” Top Piston Rings – All 1968 Engines. Specially designed to provide outstanding oil economy under all normal driving conditions.

Calibrated Circulation Thermostat – All 1968 Engines. Features 190° F. Control to provide increased engine operating efficiency plus more positive car heating and de-icing performance.

Oversize Intake and Exhaust Valves – All 1968 Engines. Specially designed to minimize restriction of air flow and promote maximum engine breathing.

Full-pressure Lubrication System – All 1968 Engines. Features full-flow oil filter as standard equipment. Positive ventilation system directs crankcase fumes to intake manifold for more complete elimination of engine fumes.

Low Silhouette Air Cleaner – All 1968 Engines. Equipped with silencing air tube, this compact air cleaner permits a lower, cleaner hood design.

High Output Starter – All 1968 Engines. Specially designed for extra-quick starts, this high output unit features a dirt-free, sealed clutch and a special lightweight base mount.

Aluminized Exhaust System – All 1968 Engines. This system, with large muffler and tailpipe, protects parts against rust and assures longer exhaust system life.

Dual Exhaust System – Standard on Firebird H.O., Firebird 400, GTO, Grand Prix and on All Models Equipped with the 350 H.O., 400 H.O. and 428 H.O. Engines. Specially designed for the high-performance engines, this low-restriction system enhances engine operation at all speeds.

Special Cooling System – All 1968 Engines. This cooling system features full-length water jacket chamber to insure proper engine temperatures and equal temperature control for all cylinders under all operation conditions.
