STANDARD BODY FEATURES

Flasher

Four-way Hazard Warning Flasher. This special safety feature, standard on all 1968 Pontiac series, is integrated into the right side of the steering column, just below the steering wheel hub. Pushing on the control lever causes the right and left direction signals, front and rear, to blink simultaneously. Pulling out on the lever disengages the flashing control.

Parking Brake Lamp

Parking Brake Warning Lamp. This standard Pontiac feature serves a dual purpose. Should a hydraulic problem develop in the brake system, the lamp will light when the foot brake is applied and the parking brake is disengaged. The lamp will also light when the ignition key is turned on with the parking brake engaged. This reminds the driver to release the brake before moving the car.

 Direction Signal Control

Lane-change Feature in Direction Signal Control. The direction signal switch features a double detent for each direction. When the direction signal control is moved to the first detent position, for right or left direction, the flasher indicates a lane change. When the control is released, it returns automatically to the off position and cancels the lane-change signal. Full turn signal is achieved by passing the control through this intermediate detent to the normal stop position.

Door Locks and Keys

Theft-deterrent Door Locks and Keys. All 1968 door locks and keys have been modified to minimize the possibility of theft. Pontiac continues to offer approximately 2400 lock combinations; however, the key-grooving pattern in all locks and keys has been changed for greater lock security.

 SERCON

New, SERCON, Positive-contact, Bulkhead Wiring Connector. The 1968 Pontiac SERCON (Service-Connector) is a new type of positive-contact, 14-pin bulkhead connector. It features battery feed terminals of special high-current carrying capacity, for assured batter current supply. With its new bolt-together design, engine-to-front-end wire harness connectors snap together, and this complete assembly is then bolted to the bulkhead connector. SERCON permits on “T” connector hookup with testing equipment, to check the entire electrical system of the car in seconds.

Ignition Key

Anti-theft ignition key warning buzzer. This is standard equipment of all models of all series. This warning device buzzes when the driver’s door is opened, while the key is in the ignition and in the “off” position. Special contacts in the door jamb switch activate the buzzer.
