SPECIAL GTO FEATURES (f-6)

ENDURA Bumper. This GTO industry “first” represents an exclusive concept in front bumper construction. It combines a tough, micro-cellular material with excellent recovery characteristics and a heavy-gauge steel reinforcement. The specially compounded, flexible surface coating resists minor chipping, peeling and corrosion. The complete bumper is color-keyed to body exterior paint.

GTO “Dual-Gate” Shift. The optional “Dual-Gate” shift unit is available only on GTO and only with floor-mounted Turbo Hydra-Matic and console. Effortless changeover from fully automatic to manual shifting can be attained by simply moving the shift lever to the desired position indicated on the transmission quadrant. A 4-speed manual with floor-mounted shift is also available on GTO as an extra-cost option.

Extra Rim Width. The extra-wide rims of the GTO’s 14 x 6-inch wheels display the eye-catching, Fastrak G: 77 x 14 redline tires to advantage. Further, the heavy-duty front stabilizer bar and sports-type springs and shocks impart exceptional handling and roadability. GTO’s optional Rally II wheels help emphasize the all-new sports-car styling.

400-Cubic-Inch V-8 Engine. This big, husky power plant, boasting a 10.75:1 compression ratio, produces 350 horsepower at 5000 rpm. Cylinder block features thicker bulkheads for added rigidity; bores are smooth for increased performance and improved oil economy. Rocker arm covers, air cleaner and oil filler cap are chrome-plated for added appeal. An all-new 19-inch “Power-Flex” fan with five thin, flexible blades of high-strength, stainless steel is standard with this engine. Designed to vary in pitch, this fan provides excellent cooling performance at low engine speeds, operates more quietly and requires a minimum of horsepower at high speeds.
