Protecto Plate

Short answer: The Protect-O-Plate is a small credit-card-style plate (kept in the owner’s manual) that identified the car for warranty service — it was run through an imprint machine like a credit card. The format varied: some are plastic that read normally, others are metal imprinted in reverse and mounted on card stock.
