PCV Purpose

Short answer: Yes — keep the PCV; a vented breather alone isn’t enough. The PCV uses intake vacuum to pull blow-by gases out of the crankcase, preventing positive pressure that blows oil past the seals and out the dipstick, and reducing oil breakdown, internal varnishing, and fumes/odor inside the car.

It doesn’t have to live in the valley pan — installing one in a valve cover works fine. (Before PCV valves, engines just had an open vent tube from the lifter galley — you could see and smell the blue smoke from a tired motor.)
