Converting from Powerglide to TH350
Short answer: The TH350 is a direct swap for the Powerglide — same 1:1 final, but a lower first gear (a noticeable improvement). Quick answers to the related questions:
- 3.32 rear for street? Yes — a good compromise of performance and economy; you’ll feel a big difference.
- Carrier swap? No need — your existing rear end works fine if you keep its gear set (no type-2-to-3 carrier change required).
- Driveshaft? Reuse your existing one.
- Shifter: the only thing to make it “totally correct” is the extra detent for the added gear (not strictly necessary — some just file an extra detent). Ask the list if you want a 3-speed console shifter.
