Brakes – All Series. The dual master cylinder, self-adjusting brakes with warning light are continued for 1968. Although the front and rear brakes are separate and independent of each other, they are both actuated by the dual master cylinder. A hydraulic problem in either the front or rear brakes will not affect the other. Should a hydraulic problem develop, the brake warning lamp in the instrument cluster will light when the foot brake is applied and the parking brake is disengaged. This lamp will also light if the parking brake has not been released.
Optional, manual, front disc brakes are now available for the 1968 Tempest, Tempest Custom (Exc. Station Wagons), Le Mans and GTO. Power assist is available for these brakes. Power Disc Brakes are available on the Tempest Custom and Tempest Safari Station Wagons.

Fuel Tank – All, Exc. Firebirds. Modifications in fuel tank retention result in minimal tank flexing, elimination of annoying tank noise and improved tank durability.
Fuel tanks for Tempest Custom Station Wagon and Tempest Safari have been relocated to the left rear quarter. (See Engine Specification Charts on page M-3 for fuel tank capacity.)
