OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES
AM/FM Stereo Radio (Code 388). For exceptional performance in AM/FM or FM stereo reception. Available at extra cost on everything but Firebird. Two rear speakers and a front speaker standard in all Catalina, Executive, Bonneville and Grand Prix models, except convertibles and station wagons. These have one rear stereo speaker in addition to the standard front speaker, as do all models in the Tempest line. Am and FM reception are both controlled by the extreme left and right pushbuttons (including stereo if station is broadcasting in stereo). Balance control know governs playing through all speakers. (Due to technical limitations on stereophonic broadcasting and reception, owners in certain localities, may occasionally experience limited stereo range reception and/or stereo distortion and flutter.)
Delcron Alternator-Regulator (Code 694 for 42-amp). An industry “first” and a Pontiac exclusive! Basically, its efficiency comes from eliminating any external wires and connections by means of a solid state voltage regulator located right inside the alternator. To the 1968 Pontiac owner, this new feature means better voltage control, extra reliability and longer battery life. Standard on Grand Prix and optional at extra cost on Catalina, Executive and Bonneville.
Stereo Tape Player (Code 394). Features specially designed, full-fidelity speaker system for true stereo sound throughout the car. Mounted under center of instrument panel, except in case of automatic transmission consoles, where it is mounted on the console itself. Accommodates the new 8-track stereo cartridges. Controls include track selector, speaker balance, tone and volume regulators. All controls easily accessible to all front-seat occupants. Speaker system includes two, rear, stereo speakers (except in convertibles and station wagons, which have one rear speaker_ in addition to standard front radio speaker. Available only combinations with radios. This is an extra-cost option on all 1968 models except for Catalina, Bonneville and Grand Prix models equipped with manual transmission floor console.
Cruise Control (Code 441). Automatically maintains preselected car speed – a real convenience for turnpike driving. To activate it, driver merely pushes button in end of direction signal lever – without any need to remove his hand from the steering wheel. A slight pressure on the brake pedal, and the unit is back in manual control. The unit must be reset after each brake application. Available at extra cost on all 1968 series equipped with V-8 engines and automatic or Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission.
