California AIR System
Short answer: The A.I.R. (Air Injection Reactor) system came only on California Firebirds and is fairly rare. You can remove it and run without it: take off the pump and all its plumbing, screw threaded plugs into the head holes (all 1967 Pontiac heads have these holes — non-A.I.R. cars just used plugs), and plug the inlet on the underside of the air cleaner.
If the engine “starved for air” when you plugged the head ports, that’s a separate problem the A.I.R. system was masking — look elsewhere. And if you’re removing the system, keep it intact (vent tube and air cleaner included); it’s collectible.
