Subject: Turbo Hydra-Matic Transmission — Pump Assembly Gear Clearance Revised.

Short answer: The allowable pump body face-to-gear face clearance has been widened; revise your 1968 Pontiac Service Manual to reflect the new maximum of .0035″ (the minimum remains .0008″).

Refer to your 1968 Pontiac Service Manual, Section 7E, page 7E-30, item No. 2. The sentence currently reads:

“Check pump body face to gear face clearance, should be .0008″–.0015″ (Fig. 7E-74).”

Revise this sentence to read:

“Check pump body face to gear face clearance, should be .0008″ min.–.0035″ max. (Fig. 7E-74).”
