Subject: Diagnosing Air Conditioner Freon Loss on 1968 Models.
Short answer: In the event of freon loss on any 1968 model, replace both “O” ring seals between the muffler fitting and compressor, install a new low-pressure hose, inspect the rest of the system, then evacuate and charge. Return the old hose and seals to the Pontiac F.E.W. Room.
Use the following procedure in the event of freon loss from the air conditioner system:
- Replace both “O” ring seals between muffler fitting and compressor.
- Install new low pressure hose (P.O.A. valve to compressor).
- Inspect (and correct) rest of system for loose clamps, fittings or ruptured high pressure hose.
- Evacuate and charge system and recheck for freon leak using standard procedure listed in Diagnosis Manual.
