Dealer Technical Bulletin 68-T-17 – Delayed Upshift – Checking Procedure
Bulletin 68-T-17 — Pontiac Motor Division Dealer Technical Bulletin, Section 7E, dated June 26, 1968. Attention: Service Manager.
Subject: Delayed Upshift — Checking Procedure.
Short answer: A new governor inspection step has been developed to diagnose delayed upshifts on 1967–68 automatic transmissions: check the governor feed port opening (minimum .020″) while holding the governor by its driven gear; replace the governor assembly if the opening is less than .020″.
This checking procedure should be added to the governor assembly inspection in Sec. 7E and Sec. 7F of the ‘68 Service Manual, and in Sec. N of the Warranty & Flat Rate Manual.
Governor Feed Port Inspection (see the scan below)
- Hold the governor by its driven gear as shown in the figure.
- Check the feed port opening. This opening should be a minimum of .020″.
- If this dimension is less than .020″, the governor assembly must be replaced.
