Door Interchangeability
Short answer: Firebird doors and door skins interchange with the same-year Camaro, but not between model years — 1967, 1968, and 1969 doors do not swap with each other. Two Firebird-specific things to watch: some have “bird”-etched glass, and the hinges differ by year.
Year specifics:
- 1967: vent (wing) windows; 3-bolt hinges.
- 1968: 4-bolt hinges; the mirror style changed mid-year (early vs late), which also changed the door. (Camaro doors stayed the same through the year.)
- 1969: new panels/character lines; 4-bolt hinges.
- The vent-window assembly unbolts from the door, and its glass assembly is separate from the weather-seal assembly.
Reproduction door shells (e.g. Classic Industries) are just shells — you transfer the vent-window framework and all internal parts into the new shell, which is not very complicated. Aftermarket rear quarters work with a fair amount of bodywork (convertibles are more challenging); rust-free used quarters from the Southwest are a good alternative.
