New Engine Break-in
Short answer: Break a fresh engine in gently — the first miles largely determine its life, so no full-throttle blasts.
- Run the engine 30 minutes at a high, steady idle to break in the cam.
- Drain the oil and change the filter.
- Run ~500 miles using new-car break-in rules — the first few miles light throttle, then coast, then light throttle, repeating (this helps the rings seat).
- Change the oil and filter again.
