Thumping at Low Speeds
Short answer: A rear thump that fades at speed — check, in order:
- Broken spring.
- Loose or broken U-bolts.
- Worn U-joints (replace).
- The one you don’t want: worn carrier bearings letting the ring and pinion teeth contact (the carrier seats back in place at higher speed).
(A new, balanced, matched-size tire makes a balance issue less likely, but it’s worth confirming.)
