makes me think of something most Americans are unaware of...Potatoes being an American product brought to Europe after Columbus had been here (great for Europe by the way , saved MANY people from Starving in the 1800`s)....Potatoes arrived , became a slow process to become popular, first thought to be poisonous, because many people ate the "fruit" instead of the root balls...the green "tomatoe like" fruits on a potatoe is poisonous...took maybe 200 yrs before potatoes became a staple...Swedes are so into potatoes..its used for many things ,eaten with almost every meal, even sometimes side by side with rice! and used for making Akvavit

Both potatoes and tomatoes are in the Nightshade family of plants which are poisonous. Apple trees are grouped into Nightshades, and another but non edible member are roses. A strange family of plants indeed.
yep, and You probably know that apple seeds are poisonous....they are so small, that a large amount usually only gives stomach aches, but a big dose could actually kill you
