I left mine mounted and taped the living crap out of it. Took it to the glass bead cabinet and cleaned it up, then primed and painted it. Sure it's not perfect, but stuck up in its cubby hole, who's going to see it?
By now, I wouldn't trust it for its intended purpose anyway.
