Bottom line; I've seen this discussion several times and never have been able to conclude the "correct" factory original bottle. Perhaps there were more than one like many of the other things with our cars.
Personally I have an inflator that I purchased about 1972 after I used my original for the purpose it was intended. That 1972 bottle looks like the larger diameter long bottles but with a "replacement" part number. The black cardboard cover that I remember it having was destroyed with things being stuffed in the trunk over the years.
