Thanks Guys, I grounded the housing and that wasn't it, so I traced the wires back to the tank and found that fuel guage wire connector below the trunk lock mechnisim was loose. It's working now. I kind of liked the idea of a tank that was always full though :-).
its a good feeling to be at "full" ,but after you run out....not so good.... I ran out with my car twice before I fixed the gauge....
