All in all with our cars it is pretty basic. Is your car cranking but firing at all? Does it crank and fire but not start? Does it not crank at all?
If the car cranks but does NOT fire at all, do you have voltage at the coil? That would be the first thing to decifer. If the car cranks and no voltage at the + side of the coil then your ignition is the issue. If you have voltage on the + side of your coil and still no fire, then your points or your coil ignition box would be the issue.
Boils down to 1) power (battery or starter, 2) spark (ign switch, coil), 3) Fuel this would only be if you have the first two, power and spark
