Also check to see if oil is puddling in the valve cover. (not draining back)
Excellent one. I bought a nearly-junk '89 Acclaim a few years ago that generated heavy smoke screens. I had to change the cam plugs and rocker cover gaskets since oil just ran right out of them, and found that the webs that usually drain the oil back down were covered with a varnish-like layer.
Cleaning and sealing it didn't stop all the consumption, but it definitely helped.
