My Pontiac friend down here dyes everything with vinyl dye. I can not beleive how good it comes out. For example, the 65 Tempest he is doing did not have carpet, it originally came with rubber mats that cover the entire floor (I have never seen this before now). Anyway, he and his painter cleaned them, repaired them and sprayed them with an automotive dye and they came out looking brand new. Now granted he went from a gold color to black however, he has shown me other items that they have sprayed on some of his other cars and it looks just as good. I saw some door panels that were sprayed from orginal black to an Ivy Gold and they look perfect.
These two guys swear they can spray any vinyl part from one color to another and have it come out perfectly and I beleive them based on what I have seen. These two guys are amazing. Now that the 65 Tempest is almost complete (I helped him swap the cam that wiped out this past week) they have already begun the resto on the 61 Safari Catalina wagon. I'll post pics of this car as well. They will be spray dying the interior in this car as well as it is currently a light blue interior and he has not decided what color it is going to be when completed...
