Has your car had bodywork done? Check the flange at the top of the rear wheelhouses from the trunk side. The flanges should be bent down, not standing upright, to avoid interference with the top mechanism.
Read the long bar on the side of the top frame. It will have a three letter stamping on it. That will tell if you have a power or manual frame. If a manual frame is used with power cylinders, or a power frame with manual springs, positioning and stress issues will result.
Look for binding of materials in the frame when folding. Specifically the pads on each side, when the frame is 3/4 of the way down no fabric or padding should be pinched in the frame.
