Ok, as you all now know, we bought a 67 LeMans. Now, keep in mind the original owner drove the car until Dec. 08. He was 83 when he stopped driving the car every weekend. He drove the car much like we did our bird, to the store, church etc. However, not quite as much because the LeMans only has 54k original miles.
With that being said, there were a fair amount of dings in the car. Rear right quarter had a nice slight dent from inside the trunk outward. The front fenders both had door dings and the driver's side door had a 2" crease. The worst being the hood as it had two serious dings from someone attempting to close the hood on the air cleaner rod. This was quite obvious.
So, a friend suggested a local guy who does, paintless dent removal. I figure, what the heck, why not. Now, we took the car to our Friday night cruise last night and natrually the car was a smash hit and everyone looked her over closely. The hardcore inspectors all noticed each and every little ding on the car.
Well, I had already scheduled an appointment with the dent man for this morning. The dent man showed up at 9:30am, set up mirrors, lights, chair & table in my driveway and proceeded to pound on my new old Pontiac with hammers, dolls, center punches etc. He did so until 2pm.
I was in the back pulling parts off the Bird. My son comes to tell me "the dent man" was done. Well, let me tell you, this must be some form of magic because dam near every dent I showed him, and a few he showed me are GONE. And I mean GONE.
Ok, so you are thinking to yourself, Joe has some bad vision, maybe he just can't see them and they are still there. Nope, even the local car show "inspectors" mentioned above could not find them when we went to our monthly down town car show tonight! I swear to you that I stood there and handed out business cards for this dent guy to 7 people who asked "who fixed the dents".
Now keep in mind that some of these local car show "inspectors" are pretty harsh critics. I am sure you know who I mean, as they probably show up at your local shows as well.
Bottom line, for $275 I ended up saving myself some money as I had already asked our painter friend about painting the hood, door and rear quarter due to the dents. I will still end up getting the hood shot because of some chips on the front of it, BUT, there will be no need for ANY filler, because the dings are GONE!
Pictures would do this topic any good as the dings were all very small and tough to find, so a camera would not have picked them up. The gash in the driver's side door was the worst, because it was more than a "ding" and it is gone! Although, the scratch in the paint is still there. Hmmm maybe that will be the next magical solution, paintless painting.
Seriously, if you have ANY dings in your cars, look into this option. You WILL NOT be dissapointed...
