Well, my advise to anyone who has an opportunity to move when your job is the reason, is to do it! I worked for Circuit City from 95-02. In that time we moved (a wife and 3 kids) from NY to NJ to VA to PA to CA back to PA then back to NY where we started (the only move that I was not happy with). With every move it was a new position, salary increase and a new experience.
People always said, what about the kids, they have school, they have friends etc. etc. etc. Well, IMO there is no better way to teach your kids about all of the above than to allow them to experience change. Our kids learned a lot, met new people, made new friends (some still to this day) and they love the fact that we all learned so much from these places etc.
Our kdis would have never experienced any of those things had I not taken a gamble and stayed in the same old going nowhere fast Buffalo, NY. We had fun and we all learned a lot about this country and the people in it. I would not have changed any of it looking back.
One life leason the moving also taught the kids was to embrace change, take on challenges, be adaptable, be willing and able to adapt to a new world, climate etc. Remember, this is a global economy now, the days of staying in the same old town for your entire life are less and less likely with every passing year. Kids nowdays need to be adaptable or they will have less opportunites than those who are willing and able.
