I figured they must race with auto's. I used to race my 68 FB against my buddy with a 75 Lemans /350 SBC & 3sp shift kit. I really had to be on game with the 4 sp or he would take me!
You must have to strengthen the rear floor or something because all the hopping will push the leaf springs thru the back seat! My buddy did it once with his 68 FB /428 4:11's.
