What year car? For 68/69 there are two screws on either side of the console forward the shifter, remove those. Inside the console at the back (remove the ash tray delete panel) is a bolt (7/16"?) remove that. Pop the black plastic T-handle part off the shifter for 68. A 69 will have a button with firebird emblem that pops out and snap ring. If 68.. loosen the set screw hidden under the black plastic piece you just removed and the chrome T-handle will slide off. Now you should be able to lift off the console. If you have a 67... get the book..
