Hi all, I've done a lot of work on my car over the last year, - 67 Firebird 400. One of the things was I had a new alternator put on. I just replaced the belts again, and this time I noticed the alternator seems out of alignment to the water pump pulley. Just slightly, but it makes the belt twist a little. I've looked at this forever, the old original alternator looks identical to the new one. As you guys know, it is an exact fit on the bottom where the main pivot bolt holds it, the top is held on by the two bracket arms. There seems to be no adjustment, that would be impossible because of the tight fit of the bottom bolt. BTW, the power steering pump pulley is lined up perfectly with the water pump and the main shaft pulley. Any ideas on this? While searching this I see people talking about the Alternator part numbers, do people get there old alternators rebuilt? Never considered that, I do still have it, and think it is original.
