Good news, I vacuumed and wiped the gunk from the bores and off the pistons, and find the cylinder walls to have a slight but noticeable ridge, and no more than minor scuffing on the walls. The crank turns over easily by hand and the pistons reciprocate nicely. #1 appears to have a worn or broken ring as the fit is a bit loose, but otherwise the short block appears readily rebuildable.
The cam was coated with lube or oil, and what I thought was rust wiped right off. Without the pulley installed I was not able to turn it over it the housing.
The Sprint head is a bare, hot tanked casting that has been sitting in storage for 30+ years. It needs to be completely reconditioned. There is a first option already given on it, and I should know by the end of the weekend.
I am still gathering info to match up my parts. I have a "valid" block stamping, but the casting code doesn't match any on the lists provided. So I know there is more information to be found.
