Just need fuel to the pump and 12 volts to the coil and starter, short the solenoid or get a remote starter switch for it. Use a battery cable for the starter wire and 16-18 gauge should be fine for the coil supply. You should put a toggle switch on the coil wire though so you can turn it off easier. Make sure the distributor coil wire is hooked up to the coil as well. It'll run off the battery for a while, no need to hook up the alternator for a test run. If you're going to run it for any length of time though hook up the water pump and radiator, don't run it dry.
Do it right and treat it as a test stand to tune it.
