As for your install issue, if it works OK, it's not likely the cause of your leak. Is it leaking from the front seal? Is the torque converter new (not grooved)? How did you install the seal? My first guess (if it's leaking from the front seal) is that either the seal was bad or the install was. Did you oil the TQ before you slide it in? A dry seal can get ruined pretty fast.
