Right. You need to do the adjustment when in the straight ahead position because that is where it will bind if it's going to. Adjust a 1/4 turn at a time and then spin the wheel back and forth to make sure no hard spots. The last thing you want is to have you wteering lock up on you.

You could order different boxes from the factory but I think std pwr was 3.5 turns L to L.
