Not necessarily. The guy that worked on my seats was able to fix some splits and one tear on my original seat covers. You cannot even see where the repairs were made. Now we are talking splits and tears of 2" or less, no missing material, etc. If you have missing pieces, LARGE tears, etc, then you will likely need new covers. He also said that the preformed foam was not worth the $80-$100 apiece. He said he could heat-cut his own foam for much less than that. (food for thought)
