I took my 68 firebird this morning to have my steering linkage done. On the way to the mechanic, my engine started knocking. Sounded like it is coming from the block. I knew it was going to be something major. It did not sound like it was coming from the head. Fortunately, i made it to the mechanic. He looked at my emgine oil dipstick and saw metal shavings. Bummer! I guess i have no choice but replace the engine. He quoted me for 3k bucks to overhaul my engine. But Im leaning towards buying a rebuilt long block and still have him put it together and install it. Can u guys give me an advice on how to get my car back on the road again. Is there someone selling an angine out here in southern Ca. Im in San Diego. The one. I saw here in craigslist is asking $3900. My mechanic offered to rebuild it for 3K and install. But I do not trust that he would do a good job.
